The operating problem

An ecommerce inventory number is not a complete warehouse position. On-hand, available, committed, incoming, and reserved quantities answer different questions. Preorders and transfers add further ambiguity if an operational report combines states or subtracts the same reservation twice.

What we built

We connected Shopify inventory and order information to a local operational data model, then built a product-enriched inventory screen. Operators can review stock by SKU alongside style, color, and size, inspect snapshot freshness, and export the selected position.

A complementary movement workflow records changes and supplements adjustment history with transfer and shipment information where appropriate. Stable movement identities allow overlapping imports to be reconciled without duplicating events. Preorder visibility helps explain commitments, while unavailable purchasing inputs are identified explicitly instead of being presented as confirmed zero supply.

What the work enables

The implemented integration gives planners a clearer explanation of what each inventory state represents and when it was observed. It supports reconciliation between the ecommerce platform and the operating view without claiming that an API snapshot replaces physical warehouse confirmation.

Reusable lesson

Define inventory states before adding them together, and preserve both event identity and observation time.
