The operating problem

A question like “How are sales doing?” hides several decisions: units or revenue, gross or net, which period, and how returns should be treated. An AI interface cannot safely invent those definitions.

What we built

We implemented governed analytical views and business context for Databricks Genie. The work defines measures, relationships, and common question patterns so conversational answers can use the same foundations as conventional reporting.

Example questions and benchmark checks make ambiguous intent visible. Each analytical space is limited to its supported data: a sales-focused space is not presented as an inventory planning system simply because users can ask inventory questions.

What the work enables

The resulting setup makes conversational analysis more reviewable and consistent with defined metrics. Answers still need appropriate validation, especially when a question reaches beyond the governed dataset.

Reusable lesson

Natural-language access is useful when the business definitions underneath it are explicit.
