The operating problem
A music retailer maintained operational inventory separately from its online catalog. Product details and stock availability needed to reach the storefront without manually rebuilding every listing.
What we built
We developed a Python workflow that reads inventory data, enriches music records through Discogs, and updates products in Shopify. MySQL logging provides a record of processing activity.
The integration includes distinct handling for stock availability and product publication state. Metadata enrichment and inventory changes are treated as different responsibilities, even when they affect the same listing.
What the work enables
The preserved implementation demonstrates a specialist catalog integration rather than a generic product import. This is historical project work; the article does not imply that the original workflow is still operated or supported today.
Specialist commerce often requires both a stock system and a domain-specific source of product knowledge.
